Team Serato at MUTEK Montreal

The next leg of our journey was to Montreal, Canada for MUTEK, a festival of digital creativity and electronic music. Firstly I gotta say, Montreal is an amazing artistic city, so as soon as we arrived we felt that the following few days were going to be really special.

More after the jump...

We arrived on the first evening of the event and were treated to an inspiring set from Matias Aguayo, someone who I've been wanting to see for a long time, and even more so since the release of his 2009 album "Ay Ay Ay" on Kompakt. Matias and his crew presented a very energetic live show, using live vocal sampling and electronic wizardry to create a unique sound, which felt as though we'd been thrown into a club slap bang in the middle of Berlin with a bunch of South Americans. Check the video below for a glimpse of what we saw (sorry for the shakiness - I was dancing).

The next day we bumped into German DJ and producer Move D, who was billed to play at MUTEK on the Saturday evening. He ended up hanging with us for the rest of the night, so we checked out a few acts who were performing, including Nathan Fake who did a delightfully glitchy techno set complete with massive floor to ceiling visuals.

Another core component of MUTEK's programming are workshops, panel discussions and Q&A sessions, which give attendees a little more food for thought. On the third day of MUTEK Serato hosted a DIGI Section workshop, demonstrating Scratch Live and some cool new stuff we're releasing including our partnership with Ableton, The Bridge and Novation's The Dicer.

That night was a big one for us, and one of the highlights was checking out Serato homegirl Ikonika playing a relentlessly good set. If you haven't already discovered Ikonika, do it now. Her debut album "Contact, Love, Want, Have" is out now on Hyperdub. And how rad is this picture?!

The next day we headed over to the free MUTEK outdoor event Piknic: Respect is Burning with Krill.Minima, Minilogue, DJ Koze and Paul Kalkbrener. It bucketed down with rain briefly, but the skies cleared and we were treated to some sunshine and beautiful music (thanks to Baptiste Grange from Ableton for the cool pics from Piknic).

That night we went out to catch the free MUTEK show, Senor Coconut & His Orchestra. Hearing a full band blasting out Kraftwerk's "Tour De France" with the entire crowd singing along was pretty crazy, as was their rendition of Telex's "Moscow Discow".

Later that night we got to check out our buddy Move D playing a beautifully twisted set at Metropolis, which you can listen to again here if you're keen. Plus I finally got to see Henrik Schwarz play, something I've been wanting for a very long time. Hearing him drop his remix of Visti & Meyland's "Yes Maam (All Night Long)" made my night. As did the final DJ set of the evening by DIxon.
