Our second day at Movement was equally awesome; I interviewed and enjoyed sets by Detroit Ghettotech master DJ Godfather and and recent signees to Planet E, Irish duo Psycatron. Other highlights included watching our good friend Recloose play a gorgeous disco and soul flavored set in the scorching Detroit sun.

Later that afternoon (and well into the night), we helped put on the All in the Family party with Recloose at the newly refurbished Alvin's, a venue with a long history of hosting some of the best music acts to pass through Detroit. This included brilliant DJ sets from Kon, Recloose, Cool Chris, Brad Hales and a great live set by The Oliverwho Factory. It was also really awesome to meet some of our regulars on the Serato forum who live in Detroit including Born DJ and DJ Tank; thanks guys for coming down!

Detroit was super cool, and it was amazing to be in one of the most significant cities to play a part in the birth of electronic music. We were there for Movement (previously known as DEMF), a three day festival featuring some of the world's freshest new electronic music acts as well as some of the scene's legends including Model 500, Richie Hawtin and Inner City.

On the first day of Movement we were lucky enough to be invited to a BBQ brunch at Claude VonStroke's parents' place. How awesome is that? We got to the festival in the early afternoon with full stomachs and began our day of filming. Watch this space for some sweet videos in the near future. Highlights of the day were interviewing Martyn and A-Trak and checking out DJ sets by them, Jamie Jones and Mark Ernestus. Check out all the pics a couple of posts down.

Our next stop was the I Love You But I've Chosen Techno party, which featured some really awesome DJs including Claude VonStroke, Seth Troxler, Worthy, Justin Long, Konrad Black and more. The venue was Detroit's The Works, which had its interior decked out in black, reminiscent of old school warehouse parties. The vibe was electric and tune highlights of the night included Justin Long finishing his set with ESG's "Dance" and Claude VonStroke dropping his new remix of Cajmere's "Percolator" and watching the crowd go bananas to "it's time for the perc, it's time for the perc...".

We also got to catch up and have a dance with Serato friend and legend Konix - who makes the best Scratch Live tutorials. Check them out here if you haven't already. Konix is the mantis.

Day 2 coming up...

A couple of weeks ago, I got the opportunity to jump over the ditch to Melbourne, where seminal techno producer Dave Clarke was playing at Creamfields Festival. A pioneer of the digital age, Dave Clarke is known as "The Baron of Techno" and embraced digital music delivery and digital DJing while most other people in the genre shunned it.

He took some time out with me to talk a bit about traveling, digital DJing, music and the importance of backing your shit up. Check out the interview below:

Make sure you listen to Dave Clarke's radio show, tearing up the internet airwaves everyweek.

A picture's worth a thousand words, and the Serato team are a bit worn out to write, so check out these pics. Detroit is awesome! More words to come soon...

Team Serato are on the first leg of our journey to Movement in Detroit, MUTEK in Montreal and Sonar in Barcelona. On the way we stopped in LA to catch up with some of our friends. Day one was spent with The Gaslamp Killer, who helped us to recover from our jetlag by taking us to these amazing gardens called at the Self Realization Fellowship. He gave us a cool bedroom demo at his house too. NIce.

The next day we went out to the RTI vinyl pressing plant, who press the Serato Pressings and control tone records. You know the ones, they go "doooooooo". We also got a guided tour of the plant and got to see how records are made. It was kinda like heaven, so many awesome old titles and great new music. Long live vinyl!

The day was topped of nicely by a dinner with some of our pals at STOKYO and Z-Trip. We've been wanting to check out the famous Low End Theory club night for ages, so we made our wish come true. A great night with stellar DJ sets from guests Poirier, Baths, MONO/POLY and residents D-Styles, Daddy Kev and Nobody. What made the night even more awesome, was when Z-Trip jumped up on the stage with D-Styles for an impromptu scratch set together. Two legends at a legend night. Check out the (admittedly shaky) video.

Thanks LA, you've been great. The next leg of our journey is in Detroit, where we'll be at the Movement festival, checking out some of the best electronic music Detroit and the world has to offer. We're especially looking forward to seeing our Serato friends A-Trak, Mark Ernestus, Recloose, Martyn and Hudson Mohawke in action. Plus we're helping out with a couple of great side parties which, if you're in the Detroit area, you gotta check out. I Love You But I've Chosen Techno and All in the Family. PARTY! Keep your eyes on the blog for more updates from the madness.
